Law Firm Study on Podcasts
Primary Research Group has published a study, which revealed some data on podcasting and law firms. The results are based on mostly large law firms (46 total).
With regard to podcasting, less than 3% of the firms in the sample have ever done a podcast to help market the law firm.
This low total doesn't surprise me, simply because the podcast still has some barriers to entry that would stall the progress of podcasts in law firms. Where blog entries can be done quickly and on a daily basis, there is a bit more setup involved in doing a podcast, and there is something about an audio clip that is going to be a bit more intimidating to most.
While podcasts may not be a part of the daily life of law firms, we see firms starting to use podcasts in one off scenarios. Say when a firm is re-tooling their site, they may say, "hey lets add a few podcasts in our careers section", you know day in the life stuff. We also see firms starting to ask us about doing special events. Say if the firm put together a mock trial, or a seminar.
So here is an opportunity right, if you are a law firm and you want to stand out and get some buzz, seems like a good time to do a podcast. Buy low sell high right, counterintuitive approach.

Hipcast for Podcasts
OK, so we are going to get rolling soon on our podcasts and I came across an interesting product by a company called Hipcast at www.hipcast.com.
Essentially, it takes all of the tech out of doing podcasts. Some of the cool features are the ability to do podcasts over the phone and also over the internet via a web browser. The only downside that I have seen is that the player that hipcast uses has a url that advertises the company right on it. If that doesn't bother you, than this product could be a good podcasting choice.
I can definitely see attorneys who don't want to spend time learning how to record a podcast on their cpu opting to use the call in feature.
